Bahamas

700 Islands Co.

This 5 day adventure through the islands of Eluethera and Harbour Island in the Bahamas.

Vanessa Ansel was my guide on this epic trip and she had so many amazing stories to tell. She is a local Bahamian realtor and wanted to elevate her brand by organizing a travel editorial to show what the Bahamas has to offer from a lifestyle standpoint.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” — Helen Keller

Vanessa’s ancestors settled the Bahamas during the revolutionary war. They fled the war and landed on the island of Eluethera and became pineapple farmers. Today, there are still a lot of pineapple farmers on the island along with remnants of old cattle farms and grain silos. This is something most people don’t envision when coming to the Bahamas. It is usually the stunning clear water and fresh seafood but the islands are so much more than that.

It’s a way of life.

We stayed at this beautiful off grid Airbnb on the Atlantic coast of the island. They private beach was just unreal. This side of the island boasts massive rock cliffs. Another reason Eluethera is one of my favorite islands, it has vastly different landscapes than what you imagine the Bahamas has.

The silos were a part of Austin Levy’s 2400-acre ‘Hatchet Bay Plantations’: a thriving dairy and poultry farm that supplied Nassau with much of its milk and eggs. Then the lonely silos stored feed for livestock. Now they stand silent, abandoned, and unused.
